It is not always obvious if one or more files have been deleted or modified, especially if you are looking in a folder with numerous files and sub-folders. Checking a file's MD5 checksum is the most reliable method of verifying its integrity or if two files are identical. You can perform this procedure fast and easy with MD5 Checksum Verifier. Besides displaying the MD5 checksum values of your files, the application can also tell you if one or more items have been deleted or modified.

MD5 Checksum Verifier works on any Windows platform, from Win 98 to Win 8. It requires a 166MHz processor or greater and at least 16 MB of available RAM, which should not be too much for any modern day computer. Although it is not free, the software's trial version is fully functional, so you will not encounter any restrictions until it expires.

The application comes with a tabbed interface, on which you may calculate file MD5 values, create and verify check files. If you want to calculate MD5 checksum values, you just need to load one or more files. Once loaded, the files will appear in a list, along with their paths and MD5 values. You can save the list as a file, in plain text format, if you want to review the values at a later date.

Check files can be used to verify if your files have been erased or modified. First, you need to create a check file, just by selecting a folder, on the second tab, and clicking a button. Additionally, you can tick an option, on the same tab, if you want to include sub-folders. The check file will be stored in the targeted folder and you must not move it to another location.

If you load a check file and click a button, on the third tab, the software will compare all MD5 values, from the targeted folder, with the original values, from the check file. As a result, MD5 Checksum Verifier will tell you how many files have been deleted or modified and which ones. The report is presented as plain text, which can be selected and copied.

Pros

The software can display the MD5 checksum value of any file. Furthermore, it can tell you how many files have been erased or modified, if you save their MD5 values in a check file. MD5 Checksum Verifier is very easy to use and you can have it up and running on your computer in a few seconds.

Cons

You can not export the results in other formats, like CSV or HTML. When it comes to verifying data integrity, MD5 Checksum Verifier can provide you with accurate and reliable results almost instantly.
